When you’re running SACMI rotary machines, everything moves fast. Like, really fast. In that kind of environment, every second counts. If your infrared (IR) lamps take too long to hit their target temperature, you’re going to see it in your product. We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to kill that start-up lag. The secret to a fast start It really comes down to the physics of the filament and the quartz. We’ve stripped back the thermal mass so the filament doesn’t have to “fight” its own weight to get hot. We also tweaked the wattage-to-voltage ratios. The result? The lamp hits peak output the instant the power kicks in. If your lamps are sluggish, you end up with cold spots in your PET preforms. That’s how you get those annoying thin walls or that cloudy “pearlescence” look that makes a batch look cheap. Nobody wants that. Built to fit, built to last We use high-purity quartz glass because these lamps go through a brutal cycle of heating and cooling. They’re designed as direct replacements for SACMI specs, so they slide right into your existing oven layout without any guesswork. Plus, the connectors are standard, which makes your changeovers a lot less stressful. But here’s the tricky part: you can’t just crank up the wattage to get more speed. If you push it too hard, you’ll burn out the filament in no time. We’ve balanced the tungsten density so you get that rapid ramp-up without having to replace your lamps every five minutes. A couple of things to keep in mind These fast-start lamps put out some intense shortwave radiation. Because of that, your reflection chambers need to be spotless. If your reflectors are oxidized or dirty, you’re basically throwing those efficiency gains in the trash. And one last tip—check your power supply. These lamps pull a quick surge of current when they fire up. Just make sure your system can handle the spike so you aren’t spending your afternoon resetting tripped breakers.
