Let’s talk wattage
You don’t want to overdo it. If you put a massive heater in a tiny powder room (we’re talking 3-5m²), you’re just wasting power. Something in the 400W to 600W range is usually plenty. Here’s the thing: if the heater is too powerful for the space, your thermostat will just click on and off every two minutes. It’s annoying, it wears out the lamp faster, and it costs you more money. For the bigger bathrooms—maybe 8-12m²—you’ll need to jump up to 800W or 1200W. But instead of one giant, scorching unit, try splitting that power across a few smaller lamps. It makes the heat feel more natural. You won’t have that weird experience where your left shoulder is roasting while your toes are still freezing.
The “Safety Case” Trade-off
Since we’re using those IP44-rated fixtures to keep the water out, the lamps have sealed gaskets and special housings. Now, there’s a small catch. Those protective covers can block a tiny bit of the heat from spreading. You lose a sliver of that direct “sun-on-your-skin” feeling compared to those raw industrial lamps you see in warehouses. Just keep that in mind when you’re calculating how much power you actually need.
A quick word on the wiring
Don’t just plug these into any old outlet. Get them on their own dedicated circuit. If you’re installing a few 1200W lamps in a large master bath, your breaker might not be able to handle the load. Nobody wants the lights to go out right in the middle of a shower because the circuit tripped. Make sure your wiring is thick enough to handle the current so nothing gets too hot behind the walls.
