
Keeping Your Sidel and Krones Lines Running Without Breaking the Bank
If you’ve spent any time managing PET blow molding lines, you know the drill. The heating oven is where the real battle is won or lost. Specifically, those IR lamps. They’re the parts that just wear out—it’s inevitable. We make drop-in replacement lamps for Sidel SBO and Krones Contiform machines. They do exactly what the OEM parts do, but they won’t eat up your entire maintenance budget.
Getting the heat right
Here’s the thing: you need that PET preform to hit its glass transition temperature fast. Really fast. That’s why we use high-wattage, short-wave IR tech. We also build these to handle voltage spikes. There’s nothing worse than a power surge wiping out a fresh set of tubes. We’ve focused the heat density so the walls of the preform get plenty of warmth, but the base doesn’t end up scorched. Just a heads-up: make sure your power supply matches the lamp’s wattage. If they’re off, you’ll see flickering or weird cold spots in your oven zones. It’s a pain to fix once you’ve started the run.
What’s under the hood?
We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because the constant heating and cooling on a production line is brutal. To keep the light consistent and the life of the lamp long, we fill them with halogen. As for the install, it’s easy. We use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. You just pop them in. No hacking at the lamp holders or spending hours on wiring. The real secret is the coating. We apply specific layers to make sure the IR radiation actually sinks into the plastic instead of just bouncing off the machine frame and heating up the room.
A few things to watch out for
Now, you might be tempted to crank up the wattage to speed up your cycles. It works, but there’s a trade-off. Higher output means your cooling blow-off system has to work harder. If you push it too far, the ambient temperature in the oven climbs. Keep an eye on your ventilation—you don’t want your sensors overheating just because you wanted a few more bottles per minute.
