
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Feel Like a Heat Lamp at a Buffet
Most short-wave infrared lamps are basically light cannons. They blast out a ton of heat, sure, but they also dump a lot of blinding white light and UV rays into the room. In a bathroom, that’s a problem. It’s an annoying glare at best. But for babies, whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours, that kind of intensity can actually be stressful on their retinas. Nobody wants that. So, we changed how the light works.
Saving Your Eyes
We use these special quartz coatings to kill off those harsh “white light” peaks. Think of it like a filter. We apply a selective absorber to the tube that blocks the shorter, blinding wavelengths but lets the long-wave infrared heat slide right through. The result? You get all the warmth on your skin, but you aren’t squinting or dealing with a blinding flash every time you flip the switch.
Dealing with the Ceiling Trap
Putting a heater in a recessed ceiling is tricky because heat loves to get trapped up there. If you use cheap glass, the tube will just crack under the pressure. To stop that, we use high-temperature quartz glass that can handle the heat of a ceiling void without breaking a sweat. We also use polished aluminum reflectors to make sure the IR rays go exactly where they belong: straight down. One quick tip on the wiring: bathrooms are humid. If moisture gets on the lamp, you get “hot spots,” and your bulb will burn out way faster than it should. Make sure your housing is IP-rated and use a solid moisture-resistant seal around the bezel. It’ll save you a headache later.
The Trade-off
Here’s the thing: when you filter out the glare, you lose some of the brightness. These “soft light” lamps aren’t going to illuminate your whole bathroom like a surgical suite. They’re designed for comfort and safety, not for lighting up the room. If you need to see every detail in the mirror, just pair these with some good LEDs. It’s a small price to pay to make sure the heat is safe for everyone in the family.
